Classification of printers

Printers are also classified by the following characteristics:

a) Quality of type

The output produced by printers is said to be either letter quality, near letter quality or draft quality. Ink-jet and laser printer produce letter quantity type.

b) Speed

Speed is measured in characters per second or page per minute. The speed of printers is various widely.

c) Graphics

Some printers can print only text. Other printers can print both text and graphics.

d) Fonts

Some printers like dot matrix printers are limited to one or a few fonts.

e) Color

With color printer, we get a print with colored image.

f) Memory

Printers have a small quantity of memory storage space.
