What is computer networking?

A network is a collection of interconnected independent computers.

In additional to computers, a network consists of peripheral device with carries and data communication devices used for the purpose of exchanging data and information.

Advantage of networking

The following are advantage of networking:

a) Resource Sharing

The aim is to make all program data, peripherals available to authorized user on the network irrespective of the physical location of the resource.

b) Better communication media

In the organization, with a number of branches at far of places, networking of computer facilities are cheap and easy mode of communication.

c) Access to remote database

By getting access to remote database, we access any computer from any parts of the world.

d) Reliability

This is provided by having an alternating source of supply.

Types of network

There are three types of the network.

a) Local Area Network (LAN)

b) Wide Area Network (WAN)

c) Multi Area Network (MAN)
