Fundamentals of a Personal Computer [PC]
A PC is a general purpose machine, designed to meet the personal computing needs of individuals. Data storage and processing are the important tasks performed by the PC.
Various part of a PC
A PC consists of electronic components connected to various peripherals and accessories that let user send data to the computer (input) or receive information from the computer (output). The main parts of the computers are below:
1) Monitor
It displays both data entered by the user and information processed by the computer.
2) Keyboard
It enables user to enter data in order to perform specific operation.
3) Mouse
It is the pointing devices. We use it pointing to the picture.
4) Printer
User takes a hard copy of information by transferring the result of their work on to paper by the printer.
5) Mother Board
It is the large printed circuit board inside a computer that carries and connects the entire principal electronic component such as micro processor and memory.
6) Floppy Disk Drive
It reads and writes data on removable magnetic diskettes. Thus enabling user to transfer information between computers, make copies of data for backup purpose.
7) Power Supply
It transforms the 220volt alternating current of electrical outlets into low voltage direct current required by electronic component and peripherals.
8) Hard Disk
It is the main storage area of personal computer. It can hold huge amounts of program and information in magnetic form.
9) CD/DVD Drives
A CD-ROM drive uses disks to store large amount of information. The disk for the CD-ROM drive is known as CD or CD-ROM disk. Data contained on these disks are audio files, software applications and graphics.
Assembling parts of a PC
A computer is a system formed by assembling a number of components. For assembling a PC, we will require.
1) IDE Hard Drive
2) Memory Module
3) PCI Network Interface Card
4) Video Card (Optional)
5) IDE CD-ROM
6) IDE Floppy Drive
7) Processor
8) Two Cables
9) Heat Sync and Fan
10) Power Supply
